Note Numbering System and how to read the currency note

(Information is given according to currency numbers)

Denominations - Rs.1, Rs.2, Rs.5, Rs.10 Rs.20
  • Starting from 00A 000001 to 00A 1000000; 10 lakh notes in prefix digit.
  • Starting from 00A 000001 to 99A 1000000; 10 crore notes in 100 prefix number with one Alphabet letter.
  • There are 20 alphabets used as prefix digit in currency notes to define different number variety circulated by Reserve Bank India.

These are as follows: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V & W. Total 200 crore notes (10 crore x 20 prefix = 200 crore notes are in one Insert letter)

Denominations - Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.500, Rs.1000

  • In these denominations 1 digit and 2 alphabets are used.
  • It starts from 0AA 00001 to 0AA 1000000 x 0AA 00001 to 9AA 1000000 = 1 crores x 20 prefix alphabets x 20 crores = 400 crores in one Inset letter.
  • Total 400 crore notes (20 crore x 20 prefix = 400 crore notes are in one Insert letter)
