Royal Mail Celebrates 500th Anniversary

Royal Mail is commemorating its 500th anniversary this year. 2016 marks 500 years since Henry VIII knighted Brian Tuke, the first master of the posts in 1516.On this occasion the Royal Mail has come up with several remarkable ideas to make this day memorable to all philately lovers.
It is celebrating some of the people who contributed to the history of Royal Mail. Royal Mail has teamed up with the British Postal Museum and Archives (BPMA) to create an online gallery of 500 objects, people and events telling the story of the postal service.
Moreover, a special postmark has also been issued which will appear will appear on millions of items of mail delivered nationwide.
In 1635 the postal service was opened up to the general public by King Charles I, which turned out to be the turning point of World History.
