2016-10-27 Thu

The last Angel 20th-ounce gold coin has been issued for the Isle of Man by Pobjoy Mint, featuring a Christmas special privy mark, celebrating the three gifts of the Wise Men. The Pobjoy Mint has been minting a limited number of these coins annually with different privy marks and reverse designs since 1984. The 2016 privy mark depicts first Christmas gifts, gold, frankincense and myrrh offered by the Three Kings.

The Isle of Man will end its contract with Pobjoy Mint from spring 2017 and the private Tower Mint has the new contract. The coin depicts the Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. Since medieval times, it is believed that the Angel denomination brings good luck and health. The obverse design is approved by Buckingham Palace and features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Man, by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The mintage limit of this 1.555 grams Proof .9999 fine gold coin is 1,000 pieces and it can be purchased for $169 each. The coins come in special packaging along with a certificate of authenticity.
