PM releases coin to celebrate 125th Birth Year of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

2015 marked the 125th birth year of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. To celebrate the event, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has released two commemorative coins bearing face values of Rs. 10 and Rs. 125. The coins were released on December 6th 2015, Dr. Ambedkar’s death anniversary, which is observed as Mahaparinirvan Divas of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The coin is minted at the India Government Mint in Mumbai. The obverse depicts the Lion capitol, the Ashoka Pillar, in the centre with the inscription ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and the denomination with the Rupee symbol under it. The reverse depicts Ambedkar’s portrait with the inscription ‘125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’ in English and Devnagari with the year of issue under the portrait. The 125-rupee coin is made of a quaternary alloy made of 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. It weighs 35 grams and measures 44 mm in diameter. The coin is circular in shape and has a Milled Edge with 200 serrations. The 10-rupee coin is bimetallic and is made of a Cupro-Nickel centre surrounded by an Aluminium-Bronze ring. It weighs 7.71 grams and measures 27 mm in diameter. The coin is circular in shape and has a plain edge.Latest News
