On 6th and 7th, August Cherrystone is holding it ‘Rare stamp and Postal History of the World’ auction. The sale will offer 1668 lots and will begin with the philatelic material of the United States, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Italy colonies, World war II occupation issues, Liechtenstein, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, and Scandinavian countries. The most fascinating and the highlight of this sale is the 1918 ‘Two dollar Pechino local handstamp type II o 5 lire. The auction house is offering this stamp for USD 45,000.It type of stamp is a phenomenal rarity of the offices in Peking features this extremely rare type of surcharge with all capital letter ‘DOLLARI’ The most common type of Peking was made by adding a surcharge with ‘dollari’ in the lower case to an already overprinted stamp for Peking from the previous issues.
According to the auction house ‘A premier rarity from the Italian Colonies and the Italian Offices in Pechino, certainly one of the best, if not the finest of the only 15 issues, perfect in every aspect’.
