Ferdinand III was the Holy Roman Emperor, reigning from 1637 until his death in 1657 AD. He was a king of Hungary, Croatia, Bohemia, and Archduke of Austria as well.
Ferdinand was born on today in the year 1608, to Emperor Ferdinand II and Maria Anna of Bavaria. During the lifetime of his father, Ferdinand III was elected king of Hungary in 1625 and crowned king of Bohemia in 1627. The energetic and able Ferdinand took part in ministerial councils and affairs of state from 1626. He headed the peace party at the Hapsburg imperial court during the Thirty Years War and ended that war in 1648 with the Peace of Westphalia.
The above shown 100 Ducats, which issued in 1629, depicted the bust of Ferdinand III on its obverse face.
