Gold Mohur of Pratap Singh Listed For 3,00,000

This gold one-third mohur issued by Pratap Singh from Princely State Baroda is listed for INR 3,00,000 in the upcoming auction of Todywalla Auction which will be held in Mumbai on 20th July 2019.Baroda was a Princely State during the British rule in India. Today the state is situated in modern-day Gujarat. It is also known as Vadodara, this state derived its name from a Sanskrit word ‘Vata Udara’. The meaning of this word ‘Vata Udara’ is in the heart of ‘Banayan’ (Vata) tree. It also has another name like Virakshetra or Virawati (Land of warriors). The Princely State Baroda was ruled by Gaekwad’s of Maratha Confederacy from 1721 CE till 1949 CE.
The obverse of this coin depicts a portrait of the Maharaja Pratap Singh wearing royal headdress and ornaments facing right, with his name written around. The reverse of this coin name and state of Baroda, with denomination 1/3 Mohur; Scimitar and Vikram Samvat date 1995.
