Grenada is a Caribbean country comprising a main island, also called Grenada, and smaller surrounding islands. Dubbed the “Spice Isle,” the hilly main island is home to numerous nutmeg plantations. It’s also the site of the capital, St. George’s, whose colourful homes, Georgian buildings and early-18th-century Fort George overlook narrow Careenage Harbour. To the south is Grand Anise Beach, with resorts and bars.Grenada's economic picture is soured by a heavy external debt problem. Grenada is a globally important producer of several different spices. The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the currency of Grenada which is a part of all seven full members and one associate member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
In 1965, the Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority issued banknotes in denominations of 1, 5, 20 and 100 dollars, all featuring the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Today we are discussing a 5 dollar banknote issued in 2000.
The obverse features the portrait of the queen to right along with turtle and green-throated carib to left and centre. The reverse features the Admiral's House in Antigua & Barbuda; Map of the Caribbean; and the Trafalgar Falls in Dominica.
