On 20th July, Guernsey and Jersey would be releasing special postage stamps to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing. Neil Armstrong became the first human being to step on the moon on 20th July 1969. Guernsey will be releasing four stamps in different sheets of 20, apart from a souvenir sheet with se-tenant stamps of the same designs. The 65-penny stamp features a photo taken by Neil Armstrong showing Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin with Armstrong’s shadow reflected in Aldrin’s visor. The 80p stamp features the first ever footprint of Man on Moon. The 90p stamp shows a picture of earth as seen from Moon’s surface while the 48p stamp shows an astronaut near the satellite.
Jersey would be releasing 6 stamps featuring illustrations created by Keith Burns of the moon mission from lift-off to landing. The stamps also depict original headlines and quotes that appeared on the Jersey Evening Post after achieving this astonishing feat. A souvenir sheet with a single £3 stamp featuring the iconic television coverage of the event will also be released.
