Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is located in Bayfield; it is the national lakes of the United States which consist of 21 islands. The majority of the island is located in Ashland country, except Madeline Island which comes under Apostle Island National Lakeshore.

The Apostle Island National Lakeshore provides regionally diverse and unique plant communities. The lakeshore of this island provides important nesting habitat for the following colonial nesting birds. This island is one of the great examples of sea caves.

The United States of America had issued a commemorative quarter dollar with the theme of Apostle Island National Lakeshore in the year 2018. The reverse of this coin depicts ‘sea caves at Devils Island with the lighthouse in the background and a kayaker paddling in the foreground’.
