Coin Dedicated to Captain James T. Kirk

The Perth Mint issued a 1oz 99.99% pure Silver Proof Coin featuring the famous Star Trek character, Captain Kirk, portrayed by the great actor William Shatner. The coin was released as legal tender for the Government of Tuvalu. Designed by the Perth Mint artist Jennifer McKenna, the reverse side features Captain Kirk on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, Star Trek: The Original Series logo, and Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark. Jupiter and one of its moons can be seen in the background. The obverse side depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, denomination 1 Dollar (TVD), weight and fineness, and year-date 2019.The coin comes in a special display case which is packed in a themed shipper along with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The 31.107 grams coin has a diameter of 40.60 millimetres, a thickness of 3.21 millimetres and a mintage limit of 3,000 pieces.
Apart from the Star Trek series, William Shatner has acted in 7 feature films. He also gave his voice to the animated version of his character. Kirk was Starfleet’s youngest captain who used unique yet successful tricks. William Shatner had himself suggested the coin design to Perth Mint.
