Sher Shah Suri Silver Half Rupee Listed For INR 45,000

We all have heard about Sher Shah Suri, the ruler of Delhi Sultanate. He was a great warrior who ruled Delhi Sultanate from 1538CE till 1545 CE. Although he ruled Delhi Sultanate for seven years and in these seven years of his reign he bought a vast number of improvements in the Indian subcontinent. He built many mosques and also laid down the network of roads among them being the Grand Trunk Road. He also had a good knowledge of architecture, and this is proved with the Rohtas Fort which was built by him.

After sitting on the throne of Delhi he introduces ‘Rupiya’, it was the first time under his reign ‘Rupiya’ was introduced in the place of Tanka. He also renamed Humayun’s city, he changes it from ‘Dina-Panah’ to Shergarh.

This very rare ‘Jahanpanah’ type silver a half rupee issued by him is listed for INR 45,000 in the upcoming auction of Classical Numismatic Gallery which will be held in Mumbai on 19th April 2019. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sher Shah Al Sultan Khallada Allah Mulkahu in circle, date, Kings Name in Nagari. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘In circular border Sher Shah al-Sultan Khallada Allah Mulkahuwa Saltanahu; Nagari legend Sri Serasahi and other titles, including Abu al-Muzaffar Jahanpanah around.
