2019-04-08 Mon

On 6th April, USPS revealed the design of a non-denominated (55¢) commemorative forever stamp dedicated to former President George H.W. Bush. The stamp is available for purchase in panes of 20.

A ceremony would be held on 12th June at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Texas to release the first issue. 12th June is also the birthday of George H.W. Bush.

The portrait featured on the stamp is painted by artist Michael. J. Deas. The portrait is based on a 1997 photograph taken by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. The stamp was designed by USPS art director Phil Jordan.

George H.W. Bush was the 41st president of the US who handled the post-Cold War period very proactively and diligently. He also pushed the idea of a multinational coalition that led to the withdrawal of Iraq from Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War. He believed in the strength of Public service and worked towards building a community that shapes a nation's identity. George H.W. Bush died on 30th November 2018, at the age of 94.
