Remembering Kumar Gandharva

Today, on 8th April 1924 the globally respected and recognise Hindustani classical singer Kumar Gandharva was born. He is also known as Shivaputra Siddharamayya Komkalimath, the title Kumar Gandharva was bestowed on him as he was a child prodigy and refused to bind by the tradition of any gharana. Kumar Gharava studied under B.R. Deodhar and later shifted to Dewar.Pandit Kumar Gandharva was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1977. Besides, the Government of India issued an Rs 5.00 stamp paying commendation to him. A singing portrait of Kumar Gandharva is featured on this stamp.
