Mughal Empire is one of the Empires which hardly require any introduction. It was one of the largest empires who ruled Indian subcontinent during the medieval period. This silver Heavy Rupee which was issued by Mughal Empire Jahangir is listed by INR 1,00,000 in the upcoming auction of Todywalla which will be held in Mumbai on 20th April 2019. The weight of the Mughal Empire is around 13.65g and it was issued by Jahangir during the Hijri Year 1014 during the first year of his reign.
After sitting on the throne of the Mughal Empire Jahangir increased the weight of his coin by 20%. This weight was slightly higher than the rupee standard, and this heavy rupee is also known as ‘Jahangiri’. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Mughal Emperor Jahangir and reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name Lahore.
