The Khwarazmian dynasty was a Persianate Sunni Muslim dynasty of Turkic origin. The dynasty was founded by Commander Anush Tigin Gharchai, a former Turkic slave of the Seljuk Sultans, who appointed as governor of Khwarezm. It ruled large parts of Central Asia and Iran.
Atsiz, the second Shah of Khwarezm was born today in 1097. He was the son of Qutb ad-Din Muhammad. Atsiz gained his position following his father’s death in 1127 and ruled till 1156 AD.
During the reign, he issued Gold Dinar from Arslan, Tekesh, and Khwarezm mint. The above shown gold Dinar was also issued during his reign from Khwarezm mint. The obverse of a coin depicted the Kalima, while the reverse of the coin has king’s name and title.
