Andorra 2 Pessetes banknote of 2014
2019-03-15 Fri
Andorra is a tiny, independent principality situated between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains. It’s known for its ski resorts and a tax-haven status that encourages duty-free shopping. Capital Andorra la Vella has boutiques and jewelers on Meritxell Avenue and several shopping centers. The old quarter, Barri Antic, houses Romanesque Santa Coloma Church, with a circular bell tower.Andorra lacked a currency of its own and used both the French franc and the Spanish peseta in banking transactions until 31 December 1999, when both currencies were replaced by the EU's single currency, the euro. Coins and notes of both the franc and the peseta remained legal tender in Andorra until 31 December 2002. Andorra negotiated to issue its own euro coins, beginning in 2014.
The note depicted in the image beside is a 2 Pessetes banknote of 2014. The obverse has a bronze sculpture "La Dansa" (sculptor Josep Viladomat) that is situated in front of Casa de la Vall - the fortified house (former seat of Parliament) in the heart of the Barri Antic of Andorra la Vella. The reverse has Sant Joan de Caselles church in Canillo, Andorra.
