Fall of Berlin Wall Remembered on Latest French Coins

On 31st January, France released 10 million circulating commemorative €2 coins marking the 30th anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall. The obverse side depicts an opened Berlin Wall, through which doves (symbol of peace) and excited citizens pass. Brandenburg Gate is shown in the background as a symbol of Berlin. One side of the wall shows an inscription that reads “30 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall/30 Jahre Mauerfall”, in graffiti-style. Other inscriptions include the year of issue – 2019, and initials of issuing country - RF, which stands for Republique Francaise. The coin’s outer copper-aluminium-nickel ring shows 12 stars of the European flag, while the copper-nickel core shows a map of the European Union on the reverse side. The 8.5 grams bi-metallic coin has a diameter of 25.75 millimetres.East Germany got freedom after the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9th November 1989. The event ended the cold war and pacified the international tensions that had been mounting for many decades. It was also the first step that was taken to reunify one of the most important countries of the European Union.
