Irish Post has introduced a special commemorative stamp to celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day.Known as the “Apostle of Ireland”, St. Patrick is Ireland’s patron saint. The story is that, a 16 year boy Patrick was taken as a captive to Great Britain by the pirates. He escaped after 6 years and returned to his home town in Ireland.
He, then, became a cleric and devoted his life to spread the Christianity. The St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many parts of the world especially by the Irish communities.
Designed by Steve Simpson, the stamp is based on an illustration by John Kindness. This €1.05 worth stamp features young Patrick in slavery with Slemish Mountain in the background.
The St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with green colour. Many people wear an item of green clothing on the day. Even the food and drinks consumed during the parties are dyed in Green.
