Silver Tanka of Ghiyath Al-Din Bahadur of Bengal Sultanate

In the Hijri Year, 726 Muhammad bin Tughluq re-established Ghiyath Al-Din Bahadur as the Governor of East Bengal in Sunargoan. After two years, Ghiyath Al-Din Bahadur issued gold and silver coins bearing his name and the name of Muhammad bin Tughluq. It is said that this coin was struck by the order of Ghiyath Al-Din Bahadur, who trust in Allah Muhammad Tughluq. But, in the later years, it was regarded as the act of rebellion. Ghiyath Al-Din Bahadur has a rebellion against his Delhi master Muhammad Bin Tughluq and this had led to his unfortunate death.This silver tanka which was issued by Ghiyath Al-Din Bahadur from the mint Hadrat Sunargaon was sold for INR 1,25,000 by Rajgor Auction. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Duriba Bi-Amr Al-Wathiq Billah Muhammad Bin Thuhluq Shah’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘‘Al-Sultan Al-Muazzam Ghiyath Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Abul Muzaffar Bahadur Shah Al-Sultan Bin Sultan’.
