Kumaragupta Lead Coin Sold for INR 3,800

The Gupta’s are known for their beauteous gold coins but they have also issued silver, copper, and lead coins. Kumaragupta (415-455 CE), one of the well-known rulers of the Gupta Dynasty, issued many beauteous coins. He tried experimenting with coinage and issued many types of coins. He is also known for issuing a few lead coins. Let us see one of the lead coins of Kumaragupta.The obverse of the coin depicts the Brahmi legend ‘ Shri Kumara Guptasya’ and the reverse is obliterated. This coin was sold at the Classical Numismatic Gallery for INR 3,800.
