Madhubala - born as Mumtaz Jahan Nehlavi – was the most beautiful and actress of 1940’s Bollywood. It was not a co-incident that the most beloved actress of Indian cinema was born on Valentine’s Day.Born in Traditional Muslim family, the young beauty began her acting career in 1942, in a movie called Basant, starring as a child actress. She achieved stardom and popularity in 1949 when she was cast as the lead in Bombay Talkies studio's Mahal.
In the early 1950s, Madhubala became one of the most sought-after actresses in India. But, she is most remembered for the movie Mughal – e Azam. Madhubala acted in as many as seventy films from 1947 to 1964, and only fifteen of which were box office successes.
However, her life could not share the happy endings of many of her films. This iconic beauty passed away at the age of 36, leaving all her fans heart – broken.
To commemorate her memory, India Post has issued a special cover featuring a miniature sheet and a stamp with the denomination of Rs.5. The special cover bears a heart with the number 83 in the centre and has collage of the photos of Madhubala.
