Every aspect of life is defined by science. When these scientific thought processes materialize into materialistic forms, it becomes technology. So it does not surprise scholars that ancient India gave an accurate technology to convert the universal sound into melodies with the help of musical instruments. One such medium we will discuss today is Sarod.Sarod is a popular string instrument of Indian classical music which gives out a very deep and weighty sound. This instrument can produce a chain of slides or meend which amalgamate beautifully with the Indian classical ragas. It is believed that Sarod is a combination of Chitra Veena, Rabab and modern Sursingar.
The coins of Gupta King Samudragupta depict a musical instrument which later on evolved into Sarod. Similar kinds of instruments are found throughout the Indian subcontinent. This instrument has the power to appease and pacify your mind and soul. It is a sister instrument for Sitar, when played together they give out the most beautiful resonance.
To celebrate this age-old technology of Indian classical music, India post has issued a Commemorative stamp in 1988.
