A coin is a piece of metal which is used as a primary medium of exchange. They are found in various shapes and sizes. Though currently, we are only familiar with round shaped coins, in the ancient and medieval periods, odd-shaped currencies were known to exist.We will take a look to one of the odd-shaped currency. Kaushambi was an important city in ancient India. Many independent rulers came and ruled this region. Radhamitra, one of the rulers of Kaushambi, issued coins in Hexagonal shape. The obverse depicts a seated lion to the right and Brahmi legend ‘Radhamitra’. The reverse has a bull to the right and an Ujjain symbol. It weighs around 4.24 grams.
