Stamp Collection of Music Legend Freddie Mercury

2017-09-08 Fri

One of the greatest exponents of alternative rock, Freddie Mercury was himself a stamp collector during his childhood days. It was the 71st birth anniversary of this popular Queen songwriter on 5th September. Freddie took his last breath in 1991 after succumbing to AIDS.

His personal history is still unknown. That’s because he belonged to a Zoroastrian family. According to their religion, the personal belongings of the deceased have to be burned. Freddie’s childhood stamp collection was bought by the Postal Museum in London. The impressive sale amount was donated to the Mercury Phoenix Trust which is a charity run in remembrance of this great star.

There are reports that the collection contains stamps from Great Britain, Monaco, Aden (now part of Yemen) and Zanzibar (part of Tanzania), where Mercury spent his early days. The stamps were collected when he was between the ages nine and 12.

The album was showcased at British exhibit along with John Lennon’s childhood stamp collection in 2016.
