The defeat of Prithviraj Chauhan (last Hindu King) in the beginning of 12th Century CE opened the gates of India for foreign invaders. But yet the descendant of this last Hindu king of Delhi ruled in Ranthambhore. Today let’s talk about Hammiradeva Chauhan- the last ruler of Chahmana dynasty. His gold denominations consisted of beautiful inscriptions. He has also issued coins in copper and silver. The above-shown image depicts his silver Half Tanka, its obverse depicts a four armed seated goddess (probably Lakshmi) within the lined border. The reverse of this coin depicts legend in Nagari which reads ‘Sri Ha/ mira deva/Prisa 45’.
His gold coinage is quite rare; only two spacemen’s are so far recorded. One of his denomination has the influence Indo-Sassanian style Dramma.
Interesting facts:
The last Hindu king of Delhi ruled for 13 days was Hemu who was defeated by the Mughal forces of Akbar under the leadership of Bairam Khan.Due to the short period of his rule, he is not considered as the last ruler.
