Bangladesh to Limit Circulation of Tk 2 and Tk 5 Banknotes
2017-09-01 Fri
Bangladesh Bank is looking to limit the supply of Tk 2 and Tk 5 banknotes due to excess coinage in the vaults. Any bank wanting Tk 2 and Tk 5 notes from the central bank will be asked to withdraw 80 percent of the amount in coinage, while the rest would be bank notes. Officials stated that the Bank is also looking to limit the number of Tk 2 and Tk 5 notes on the market. BB hopes that this would increase the circulation of the coins. There are allegations that banks refused to accept coins which BB dismissed.Latest News
