Aurangzeb Gold Mohur Sold for INR 60,000

Aurangzeb was the third son of Emperor Shah Jahan. He sat on the Mughal throne in the year 1658 AD and ruled it until his death 1707 AD.When Aurangzeb came to the reign, he replaced the use of Kalima on the coin with couplets, as he did not want to defile the Kalima through its association with the monetary transactions of infidels. He also introduces ‘Julus' formula on his coin which reads as ‘Julus Maimanat Manus' with mint name and the year of his reign on the coin. There are two types of couplets with are found on his coins, ‘Mihir-e-Munir couplet' and ‘Badr-e-Munir couplet'.
This gold mohur of ‘Mihir-e-Munir' type minted in Ahmednagar during the 30th year of his reign was sold for 60,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 17th April 2015. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sikka Zad Dar Jahan Chu Mihr-e-Munir Badshah Aurangzeb Alamgir with AH 1097'. And the reverse of the side of the coin is inscribed as ‘Julus Formula, RY date 30 and Mint name Ahmednagar.
