Howling Wolf on Latest Canadian Coins

2017-07-27 Thu

The Royal Canadian Mint released the 2017 Howling Wolf $2 coin made of three-fourth ounce silver. It is the third issue in a series of coins celebrating wolves which started in 2015. The reverse depicts a huge moon behind a howling wolf. The reverse depicts the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the $2 face value. The grey wolf is the largest canine species in North America. 30 percent of its population is found in Canada. They were almost extinct at one point in time but have made a good comeback.

Advanced security features like radial lines, a micro-engraved maple leaf with “17” in the middle on the reverse, and a reeded edge, have been used on the coin. There is no mintage limit and they come in different kinds of packaging.
