Princely State of Maihar

2017-07-25 Tue

This state was administrated as a part of Bundelkhand Agency in the Central India. Being founded in 1778 by the Rajputs of the Kachwaha clan, this land was granted by the nearby state of Orchha.

This state was occupied by the Banda and later on, at the start of the 19th century, it became a Princely State of British India. Like another Princely State's of British India, this state also issued stamps as the feudatory state- in terms of Postal stamps.

The above show image of the stamp depicts the portrait of the Maharaja of this state. This stamp was issued to collect revenue or fee.

Maihar became a station on the East Indian Railway (now the West Central Railway) line between Satna and Jabalpur. In 1948 this Princely state merged in the newly formed independent Union of India.
