2017-05-20 Sat
On 28th April, an 1879-CC Morgan silver dollar graded PCGS MS-64 with a CAC sticker was sold for $16,450, double its expected value. Some collectors like toned Morgan silver dollars while others like them frosty. They are rarer in higher grades making them more sought after. The offered coin is a tougher date in the Morgan dollar series. It falls under the low-mintage 1889-CC dollar category from Carson City Mint. The coin features frosty and exceptional mint lustre with minor abrasions, almost to reach the MS-65 grade.
Two similar coins were sold for $8,225 and $12,925 at different auctions earlier this year.
