2017-05-19 Fri

14,302 people from all over the world (except Antarctica) voted to select the final design for Baltic State 2 Euro Bimetallic Commemorative Coin. 4,277 votes went to Lithuanian designer Justas Petrulis’s work.

The winning design depicts the common past, present and future of the Baltic States in a singlet plait. The design also indicates that the Century of States unites three Baltic daughters - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. 100 chosen winners will receive three coins of Brilliant Uncirculated quality in a special souvenir packing – a coin from Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian mintage.

Bank of Latvia, Bank of Lithuania and Bank of Estonia will be issuing the coin in early 2018. The coin will also remind people about the unity between the three states to maintain independence and freedom. Artists and public from the three states were asked to come up with their designs. The coins will be accepted across the euro area and will feature the same national side design. Name of the issuing country will be the only difference.

Bank of Latvia is greatly involved in celebrating the country’s 100th anniversary that will go on for five years. Apart from releasing commemorative and collector coin series and several coins, the bank will research on important developments in the financial history of Latvia and assess the contribution of great personalities. The Bank’s celebrations will end on its 100th anniversary – 1st November 2022.
