Azam Shah Gold Mohur Sold at Whooping price of INR 13, 50,000

Azam Shah was the eldest son of sixth Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. He was also appointed as the heir apparent to his father in the year 1681. He sat on the Mughal throne after the death of Aurangzeb in the year 1707 AD.Azam Shah ruled the Mughal Empire for a very small period of time; hence the coins issued by him are rare. He has also served as Viceroy of Berar Subah, Malwa, Bengal, Gujarat, and Deccan; and he had played an active role in this area. His coinage ended with the Battle of Jajau, were his was killed by his stepbrother Muzzam in the year 1707 AD.
One of his gold mohur which was issued by him with the Hijri date 1118, minted in Ahmednagar, is extremely rare, only known for Ahmednagar mint so far.
This gold mohur which weighs around 10.8g minted in Khujista Buniyad, of the type ‘Ba Daulat Wa Jah’ was sold for INR 13, 50,000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sikka Zad Dar Jahan Ba Daulat-Wa-Jah Badshah Mumalik Azam Shah’ with AH date 1118. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed with the regnal year Ahad and the mint name.
