Indonesian Stamps to Celebrate Orchids

A special orchid postage stamp series featuring various orchids from Indonesia's 34 provinces will be released by The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) on Bogor Botanical Garden's 200th anniversary – 18th May. Officials stated that the series tries to promote the richness of Indonesian orchids. LIPI works on researching about new species, increasing the number of seeds, bringing them back to their original habitat etc.This oldest botanical gardens in Southeast Asia has about 500 species from a total of 5,000 species of orchids found in the Malesia region. One of the new stamps will feature Coelogyne marythae, an orchid found in 2013 by researchers from the same Gardens while exploring Katingan, Central Kalimantan.
