The boy who lived on coins

One of the most famous series of this century, Harry Potter has far since appeared on innumerable coins, stamps and notes. The entire series has earned over billions of dollars and yet continues to do so.

Isle of Man issued commemorative coins of Harry Potter from 2001-2005 worth 1 Manx Crown each. These coins weigh 28.47 grams and have a diameter of 38.61mm. There are a number of variations in these coins. On the obverse of each coin is the bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right surrounded by a divided legend “ELIZABETH II ISLE OF MAN 2001” within a dotted circle.

On the reverse of each coin is the legend “HARRY POTTER” on top and face value of the coin “1 CROWN” at bottom with different images in the centre of the flan within a dotted circle. Some of the images are-

• Harry’s first quidditch match (in the image above).
• Harry casting a spell for the first time.
• Harry’s journey to Hogwarts in a boat for the first time.
• Harry on a broomstick, with Hermione and Ron behind, searching for the key to proceed further in sorcerer’s stone among many keys.
• The birth of Norbert.
• Harry struggling through Potions class with Severus Snape standing behind.
• Tom Riddle steals wand.
• Harry, Hermione and Ron brewing the polyjuice potion.
• Harry arriving at the burrow, etc.
