Before that, she served as Deputy Administrator of the US Small Business Administration (SBA) by President George H. W. Bush. She joined as the Vice President of Air Operations for the package and mail delivery company UPS. Carranza has been called the "Woman of the Year" by Hispanic Business Magazine, apart from receiving many other awards.

The U.S. Treasurer works for the Treasury Department. She would have to oversee activities of Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), the Mint and the Savings Bond Marketing Office within the Bureau of the Fiscal Service. She would advice mint director, the director of the BEP and the deputy secretary and secretary of the Treasury about coinage, currency and related instruments.
