AU-58 coins that are more sought after than their low-end Mint State versions. Collectors try to improve AU-58 coins with the hope of getting them into an MS-61 or MS-62. A ‘Dirty’ 1911-D Indian Head gold $5 half eagle, About Uncirculated 58+, was sold for $4,230 at Heritage’s auction in Dallas that took place from 4th to 6th April. Many gold coins have been tampered to make them shiny and bright as they are more desirable in the market.
