2017-05-03 Wed

A 13-year annual series of limited-edition .999 fine 39-millimeter silver convention medals has been launched by the Central States Numismatic with a mintage limit of 100 each.

The first medal of the series was launched at the CSNS 78th Spring Convention that took place from 26th to 29th April 26 in Schaumberg, Ill. The medals in the series would be depicting the seals of the 13 states where the CSNS members belong. The order of release would be based on the chronology in which the states joined the Union. The 2017 medal, struck in Winchester, Ind., by SilverTowne Mint, depicts the seal of Kentucky. Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota are the next states in line.

The 2017 medal’s obverse depicts the seal along with inscriptions like COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY, the convention for which the medal was issued, the convention dates and location. The reverse is almost left black to include any other information in the future. Inscriptions on the reverse include ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER.

Every exhibitor and CSNS board member at the convention got a 2017 medal. The remaining coins were sold for $35 each at the CSNS booth.
