Heritage’s Premier Session on 4th April sold an AU-58 1891 Coronet $20 double eagle for $54,088.55. The near-mint coin boasts of sharp details and slight golden lustre without any major scratches. The coin-type has a low mintage of 1,390 coins, out of which only 100 are known today. Mint State examples like the one offered at the auction are sought after by collectors all over the world. Most of these examples are a part of numismatic collections, which is why they are majorly circulated and are not as good as the one offered at the auction.
