Canada’s Geeky Move to Launch its 150th Anniversary $10 Banknote

Konami Code is a “cheat code” for video games which works by typing certain keys in a particular sequence. These are also used to decode hidden messages called “Easter Eggs” which are inserted on websites and in computer programs. The Canada 150th anniversary $10 commemorative banknote was released in a special way where users had to type in the Konami Code on the official website introducing the new note.

Montreal is a centre for the video gaming industry, which is why this innovative and fun trick was used to promote the banknote. After the code is typed, the Canadian national anthem plays and little $10 bills start falling on the screen.

This activity has created a lot of ripples in the web-world. Many believed that Canada is known for introducing cute, pop-culture things in its history, such as asking users to pick the “most Canadian” Pokemon character.
