A common circulating commemorative €2 coin celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Latvian and Estonian states and the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of Lithuanian statehood will be released in 2018. The public had to vote for the best design out of the six contending designs, two from each country. The online voting took place between 21st March and 5th April. Out of the 14,302 votes that came in from around the world, 4,277 votes went to the winning design created by Lithuanian designer Justas Petrulis. The design depicts the coat of arms of the three Baltic nations, on separate sashes into a single braid like plaited hair, representing a common past, present, and future. It represents the unity of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia apart from their valour to fight for independence.
