2017-04-29 Sat

India is the home to a large number of indigenous people, who are still untouched by the lifestyle of the modern world. Each group or community plays a very important role in contributing something to the society.

Tribal people are known as the adivasis. They are the poorest in the country, who are still dependent on hunting, agriculture, and fishing. They have their own culture, tradition, language and lifestyle. This enables tourists to get an insight into many different cultures at the same time on a tribal tour to India.

Did you know that Bhil or Bheel is one of the largest tribe in India.

According to the 2011 Census of India, the total population of Bhil is 4,618,068, constituting 37.7 percent of the total ST population. Bhils are found in the mountain ranges Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.

India Post issued a stamp of INR 1 depicting a Bhil woman who is trying to peep out from her pardha. The stamp is very appealing because of her beautiful smile!

We are familiar with our well-known story of Bhill women Shabari who offered ber to Lord Rama. This tribe is regarded as the fighter against the Mughals, Marathas, and Britishers.
