Bank of Israel to Issue New NIS 20 and NIS 100 Banknotes

The Bank of Israel is going issue new NIS 20 and 100 banknotes this year and members of the public are being asked to exchange old NIS 50 and NIS 200 bills for the latest ones at commercial banks, the Postal Bank or the Bank of Israel’s public cash window in Jerusalem. The older Series B banknotes can also be deposited in bank accounts. ATMs are currently issuing the new NIS 50 and NIS 200 notes only.The new banknotes will be a part of the Series C NIS 50 and NIS 200 notes which are already in circulation from 2014 and 2015 respectively. Security features like transparent portrait, perforated numerals, raised ink, a glitter stripe and ultraviolet elements are included in Series C banknotes. Samples of the new bills are already issued to manufacturers, suppliers and operators of vending, counting and sorting machines for calibration purposes. Officials stated that almost 90% of the Series B NIS 50 bills and 60% of the Series B NIS 200 bills have already been replaced.
