Dance Forms Celebrated on French Stamps

Various dance forms have been celebrated on France’s Fete des Timbres (festival of stamps) commemoratives since 2014. The festival took place on 11th and 12th March this year, and the special commemoratives were released on 10th March featuring Waltz and classical ballet.A couple performing waltz with a theatre in the background is depicted on the 0.73 stamp. A ballet dancer from the 1878 Edgar Degas’ painting ‘The Star’ or ‘The Dancer on the Stage’ is featured on the 1.46 denomination souvenir sheet. The remaining painting is printed in the selvage.
The actual painting is a part of a collection displayed at Musee d’Orsay in Paris.
Earlier stamps in this series show salsa, street dancers, tango, the Ballet Preljocaji production of The Nights, the Charleston and a classical production of Swan Lake.
