The Gold coin of Singhana II

The Yadavas of Devgiri ruled from the modern region of Maharashtra, north Karnataka and parts of Madhya Pradesh from 850 CE to 1334 CE.

Singhana II was one of the important rulers of the Yadavas Dynasty from 1200 CE to 1264 CE. He extended his territory from the banks of Narmada to Tungabhadra. During his reign, he invaded Gujarat and encouraged art, architecture, and literature. Sangita Ratnakar was written by Sarangadeva during his time, which is considered to be one of the most celebrated and outstanding works in Classical Music.

One of the gold pagodas issued during his times is being offered by Todywalla’s auction. It weighs around 3.85 grams. The obverse depicts a sword at the center, conch or shanka and discus (chakra) on the either of its side. The reverse bears the name of the issuer Nagari legend, “Sri Singhan Kamvaladevi”.
