1826 British Proof Set Auctioned for $282,000

Heritage Auctions’ CCE World & Ancient Coins Signature Auction is going sold an11-piece 1826 George IV Proof Set for a record-breaking $282,000. The auction made a total of $6.38 million. All the coins in the complete set were graded PR62.Coins in the 1/2 Sovereign in the set, graded PR67 Ultra Cameo featured sharp details and mirrored fields, making it the finest existing George IV Sovereigns.
An extremely rare Claudius II gold aureus, graded NGC MS 5/5 – 3/5, sold for $94,000. Emperor Claudius II, the “Roman Savior” revived the Roman Empire in the third century. Claudius became a hero but ruled for just two years.
A 19th-Century 10-piece 1893 Victoria Gold and Silver Proof Set, graded above PR63 Cameo sold for $94,000. The coins have full mint lustre and the silver coins had vibrant toning.
Several other interesting and rare coins were sold at the event.
