2017-04-18 Tue

The 50th birthday of Dutch King Willem-Alexander will be celebrated by releasing four new commemorative coins (silver-plated Brilliant Uncirculated €10 coin, a Proof .925 fine silver €10 coin, and Proof .900 fine gold €20 and €50 coins) with the same design on 24th April. Two coins were issued for the Netherlands Antilles as well.

After Queen Beatrix, Willem-Alexander acceded to the throne on 30th April 2013. He was the first male to head the state since 1890. The common obverses feature the king and a pair of ribbons, the nation's name, the king’s name and the anniversary. Reverses feature two additional ribbons and an inscription translating to “Encourage, Represent, Connect” which was King Willem-Alexander’s motto. The King focused on water management which is deeply rooted in Dutch culture. The King was chairman of the United Nations secretary-general’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, from 2006 until he became the King in 2013. Each coin has a different mintage limit and pricing.
