Unique Series 1934 $10 Silver Certificate to Be Auctioned
2017-04-18 Tue
Small US banknotes have two serial numbers on each side which generally match. A Series 1934 $10 silver certificate with two different serial numbers (star)00000055A and (star)00000051A will be offered by Heritage Auctions on 29the April at Platinum Night U.S. Currency Auction at an estimated value of $20,000 to $40,000.The solid stars on the serial numbers make the note more unique. These “star notes” are printed as a replacement for an earlier error note, which is why they are very rare. A star note with an error is even rarer. The numbering machine was probably set incorrectly. Another possibility is that cogs on a serial number wheel stuck together and did not change while they were being processed for overprinting.
The unique Choice About Uncirculated 58 Exceptional Paper Quality note belongs to Jeffrey S. Jones Collection of Small Size Currency and he had purchased it for $26,000.
