4 New Characters Added to the Beatrix Potter Collection

On 7th April, the Royal Mint announced that four new 50p coins will be added to the Beatrix Potter collection for 2017 to extend the 2016 collection that celebrated the famous author’s 150th anniversary.The 2016 collection contained coloured commemorative coins featuring Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs. Tiggywinkle, all of which were sold out within days. The 2017 coloured coins will feature Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten and Mr. Jeremy Fisher. The obverses will feature The Queen by Jody Clark.
Beatrix Potter became a successful author and illustrator of the world-famous little tales; a successful businesswoman and a serious conservationist even after facing a lot of troubles. Frederick Warne & Co. released The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902 which became an instant hit, and was followed by 22 more tales. More than 45 million copies were sold globally. Peter Rabbit became the oldest licensed character in history. Today over two million ‘little books’ are sold globally every year, and Peter Rabbit has appeared in books and products in over 110 countries.
