Any great story is always incomplete without devoted friends, for a story to reach its climax the protagonist always needs the help of the supporting character. But sometimes these supporting characters have such a significant effect on the masses that their influence creates a legend and their story becomes immortal. Such was the impact of Hanuman in Ramayana that this devotee, servant, friend, brother of lord Ram became a God.

Ramayana is an epic that does not need any introduction and neither does lord Hanuman. This beloved deity of Hindu culture is worshiped by millions throughout the Indian subcontinent. He is worshiped as a protector, giver of good luck and health. But apart from this, Hanuman is the symbol of our mind (Maan) and of the strength of devotion and discipline.

Hanuman is depicted in Indian culture through sculpture, painting, coins, etc. The best example of lord Hanuman depicted on coins is the Hanuman pagoda. This coin belongs to the Kadambas of Hangal.

The obverse of this coin depicts a seated lord Hanuman facing right, flanked by two 'chowries' and a conch above the moon on left and sun to right with the Kannada legend ‘ NA, KA, RA' below. The reverse depicts ornamented scroll of Kadambas within a dotted and linear circle.

Lord Hanuman was also depicts on the coins of Vijaynagar minted in the reign of Bukka Raya I and on the coinage of Princely State of Ratlam. Other than coins he is also depicted in the architecture of Indian temple and also on Pillars of the Ellora caves. There are many temples in South India which are devoted to this devotee of Lord Ram.

Hanuman is adorned with many different names illustrating his different personality traits. In Indian philosophy, he is the symbol of pure devotion, complete surrender, and absence of ego. This son of Kesari and Anjana and godson of lord Vayu (God of wind) also represent the ‘chitta' (consciousness), discretionary intelligence which is also considered the highest ‘tattva' (Principle of Nature).

The ancient and first superhero of Indian culture and philosophy dwarf all others by his intelligence, power, and strength of character.

The significance of Maruti has crossed borders of Indian shores and reached to the South Asian countries like Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, etc. His influence can be seen in their dance-drama and also on their stamps.
